“I was going to die.” That’s how Jenn Gottschling describes a harrowing choking ordeal she endured Monday while dining at a Detroit restaurant.

“I started choking on the cheese,” she told WJBK-TV. “I really felt [at first] like, ‘I’m OK.’”

But it soon became evident Gottschling was anything but OK, as the cheese became lodged in her throat and she began to struggle.

That’s when others at Leo’s Coney Island in Warren, Michigan, took notice of what was unfolding, and immediately came over to help.

Fellow patron Falicia Clark a woman who runs a daycare center and has intense CPR training started life-saving measures.

“Falicia Clark came up behind me and gave me some good Heimlich squeezes,” Gottschling told WJBK-TV, explaining how those actions saved her.

Watch the ordeal unfold:

Those who saw Clark’s quick-thinking moves believe she’s a hero, but she disagrees.

“I don’t consider myself a hero,” she said. “I’m just a human and when I see another human in need, I just stepped in when I needed. I just gave all the honor to God because I was just at the right place at the right time.”

The situation came to a positive conclusion, which was obviously a relief for Gottschling. She’s already dealing with tragedy, as her husband, Danny, has stage 4 lung cancer something that further fuelled her panic during the ordeal.
