FBI urges vigilance as Martha's Vineyard bank robbers remain at large

It was like a scene straight out of the movie The Town: Three individuals, all in the same Halloween-like mask, storm a bank, rob the employees at gunpoint and make a quick getaway.

Authorities are now on the hunt for the three suspects responsible for the brazen, daytime armed robbery Thursday morning at the Rockland Trust bank in the island town of Tisbury, with the FBI and other law enforcement agencies urging the public to stay vigilant.

This continues to remain a very active investigation and the search for the suspects continues, Boston FBI spokeswoman Kristen Setera told The Boston Globe via email. The Tisbury Police Department announced Friday afternoon that no suspects had been taken into custody and Massachusetts State Police have taken the lead on the investigation. The FBI is also assisting.

The robbery began to unfold around 8:15 a.m. The three masked individuals rushed into the bank as employees were just opening it for business. The district attorneys office released a photograph of one of the masked suspects to the public and has urged anyone with information about the robbery to please contact Tisbury police at (508) 696-4240.
