Mason Greenwood has been remanded in custody after appearing in court on charges of attempted rape, controlling and coercive behaviour, and assault.

He will spend more than a month on remand.

Members of the Manchester United player’s family were in the public gallery as he appeared in a grey sweatshirt and grey jogging bottoms.

The three charges relate to the same woman.

Greenwood, 21, was detained in January and had been on bail until Saturday, when he allegedly breached his bail conditions and prosecutors decided to charge him.

Greenwood confirmed his name, date of birth and address at Monday’s hearing at Manchester Magistrates’ Court.

The attempted rape is said to have happened in October 2021, the assault in December 2021, and the controlling and coercive behaviour between November 2018 and October this year.
