Man, 24, shot dead by balaclava-clad attackers after car chase is named by police
A man who was shot dead by balaclava-clad attackers following a car chase has been named by police.
Kai McGinley, 24, was found with a gunshot wound after emergency crews were called to Erith, southeast London, on Thursday.
He died at the scene.
No arrests have been made and a murder investigation is under way.
Mr McGinley is believed to have been shot by several attackers in balaclavas after a road chase involving two cars.
Detective Chief Inspector Chris Wood has appealed for information about a silver Land Rover Freelander that was abandoned by the suspects following the murder.
He said: “I believe that another vehicle or vehicles, that we haven’t yet identified, were then used to drive the suspects away from the scene.
“At least one of these vehicles is likely to be showing signs of front-end collision damage.
“If you have noticed a recently damaged vehicle, owned by a friend or family member, seen one parked up or abandoned, or indeed been asked to repair one, please get in touch.”
Mr McGinley’s next-of-kin have been informed of his death and are being supported by specialist officers, police said.
People living in the area described their horror at the violent attack.
Debbie Burton, a grandmother and former school teacher, said she was “shocked”, adding: “It’s just sad and worrying.
“Nothing like this has ever happened in Erith while I’ve lived here, and I’ve been living on this street for 26 years.”
