Mega Millions ticket worth $1M sold in N.J. as jackpot soars to $1.35B with no big winner
The Mega Millions went a 25th consecutive drawing without a jackpot winner on Tuesday night, pushing the top prize for the next game to an estimated $1.35 billion potentially the 4th largest in U.S. lottery history.
A $1 million ticket bought in New Jersey was one of 16 second-prize tickets purchased nationally. New Jersey Lottery officials will disclose where the lucky ticket was sold later Wednesday. Second-prize tickets match five numbers but not the Mega Ball.
Three of the 16 were bought with the Megaplier and are worth $3 million. They were sold in Connecticut, Florida and New York. The $3 million New York ticket was sold at Smokes 4 Less in Newburgh, while a $1 million ticket was bought at Gateway News, 1633 Broadway in Manhattan, lottery officials said. There was also a $1 million ticket purchased in Pennsylvania.
These are the 10 biggest lottery jackpots on record in the United States as of Jan. 11, 2023. The estimated jackpot for the Jan. 13 Mega Millions drawing could go even higher, depending on the volume of ticket sales.Len Melisurgo | NJ Advance Media for NJ.com
The cash option for Fridays drawing is now $707.9 million.
Tuesdays winning numbers were: 7, 13, 14, 15 and 18. The Mega Ball drawn was 9 with a Megaplier of 3X.
No one has hit the Mega Millions since a $510 million prize was won in the Oct. 14 drawing. Two ticket holders one in Florida and one in California shared that prize.
The only Mega Millions jackpot larger than Fridays estimated prize is the game record of $1.537 billion, won in South Carolina on October 23, 2018.
The odds of a $2 ticket matching all the winning numbers are 302,575,350 to 1. Players have a 1 in 12,607,306 chance of a ticket matching five numbers but not the Mega Ball and winning at least $1 million.
Mega Millions drawings are held on Tuesday and Friday in 45 states, along with Washington, D.C., and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
