Landslide kills 14 attending funeral in Cameroon, regional governor says
A landslide has killed at least 14 people who were attending a funeral in Cameroon, a regional governor has said.
The funeral service was taking place on a football pitch in the country’s capital Yaounde, one of the wettest cities in Africa.
Witnesses said relatives and friends had gathered at the base of a 20-metre-high soil embankment when heavy rains triggered its collapse, engulfing many of them.
The region’s governor Naseri Paul Bea said the search for survivors was ongoing, but at least 14 had been killed.
“We are carrying the corpses to the mortuary of the central hospital, while the search for other people, or corpses, is still ongoing,” he added.

Heavy rains have triggered several devastating floods throughout the country this year, weakening infrastructure and displacing thousands.
