Rob Lowe has said he and actress Demi Moore “briefly had a thing” back in the 1980s, at the height of their Brat Pack fame.

The 60-year-old West Wing actor was part of the hit coming-of-age movie St Elmo’s Fire alongside Moore, 61, in 1985.

He told Kelly Ripa on the Let’s Talk Off Camera podcast: “Demi and I briefly, I’m not telling tales out of school – we briefly had a thing.”

The St Elmo’s Fire cast featured a host of hot young eighties stars including Molly Ringwald, Ally Sheedy, Andrew McCarthy, Judd Nelson and Emilio Estevez.

With many of the stars forming part of the Brat Pack – whose name was inspired by Frank Sinatra’s Rat Pack – Lowe said some off-camera romance during filming was bound to happen.

“Look, anytime you put young, 20-something men and women together, hookups are inevitable. And I don’t think that has changed,” he told the podcast.

Lowe also said a St Elmo’s Fire sequel is in the works, and “moving along” albeit “slowly”.

He said he’s in contact with Moore about the film, adding: “All of the actors [are] on board… Everybody is excited.”

The cult classic follows a group of college graduates as they venture out into the world.

A documentary about the Brat Pack, directed by former Brat-Packer Andrew McCarthy, featured some of the cast earlier this year.

Moore, who had finalised her divorce to her first husband, singer Freddy Moore, at the time of filming the original, went on to date a fellow castmate, Estevez, who she was briefly engaged to.

In 1987, Moore married action star Bruce Willis, with whom she had three daughters.

She and Willis split up in 2000, with Moore marrying actor Ashton Kutcher five years later before they broke up in 2011.

Moore has recently been promoting her latest movie, body horror The Substance, about a fading Hollywood star striving to cling to her youth.
